The first time I decided I wanted a Z, I was about 16 years old and driving to school. I had a VW Scirocco at the time, it was a good little car, lots of torque, but not much horsepower. My brother and I were in the car, and to say we were exceeding the posted speed limit on a two lane road would be an understatement. About this time I had a classmate absolutely blow by me in her Burgundy 280Z (76-78?). As I watched the tail lights pull away, I knew right then that I wanted to get into a Z car.
Fast forward three years to my Freshman year at NC State, I had an opportunity to pick up a used and abused ’78 280Z. I was able to get the car on the road, get the motor swapped with an aftermarket ATK engine, and drove the car daily for the next 7 years. This car has truly been a labor of love. There is no part of this car I have not touched at one time or another. Over the years, the car has been wrecked several times and totaled outright once, but each time I was able to repair the damage and keep the vehicle in pretty good condition. There have been a number of projects targeted at ”freshening” the car and there is a continual battle with rust. Before the Wreck After the Wreck I never intended to have a show car, and in reality, the car is not a show car, it is a clean daily driver that is almost 30 years old.
