My Z love affair began with my first car, a 1980 280ZX. It was the
fastest color made, black. I had the most fun in that car. Fun that
often got me into trouble. My very first ticket was in that
280.....81 in a 55. My parents flipped out (for good reason) and I
thought for sure they would take the car away forever. The details
are a bit fuzzy, but they trusted me enough to give it back eventually
and I was able to continue the fond memories. I had a momentary lapse
of brain activity a few years later and traded it in on a Rustang
GT......the worst car decision I've made.
I lusted for the Z31.....but never took the plunge.
The Z32 was introduced and I knew one day I'd have another Z.
College came and went....all the while I was longing for the Z32. I was heart
broken when learning of the discontinuation of said model.
Fast forward several years and I hear the rumors of the pending
release of the Z33. You can imagine my excitement. My wife and I
talked about it and I decided to delay the purchase due to my first
daughter being born. The '04 models come and go. I again made the
decision to delay the purchase for family and business reasons. '05's
are released.....my lovely wife (probably tired of hearing my talk
about the 350Z) out of the blue one weekend says, "Let's go to
Charlotte and get this car you've been talking about for so long." Got
online really quick to check inventory in the area and saw that one of
the dealerships had just taken possession of the exact model and color
(again black, the fastest color [SIC, editors note :)]) with just the options I wanted. We
immediately drove to the dealership....found a salesman....told him
which car I wanted....didn't wish to test drive.....only wanted to
make an offer of what I was willing to pay. We agree, write them a
check, and the rest is history. Seems like the entire process took no
longer than 5 minutes.
I really want to thank my beautiful wife Melissa and two of the
greatest children a man could be blessed with. I've assured them I
won't be trading this Z in on a Rustang.....They don't know it yet,
but their first cars will probably be a Z of some type....whether they
want it or not.
