As soon as I start taking pictures of the car during it's stint at the body&paint shop, I will post them here, so you can see the different stages of what is going into the 280Z transformation from a stock runner to the BRE tribute car with all the engine mods.

Engine pictures soon to come, too!  I'll be bringing it home soon where I will take some good pictures.  I will also try to post any information that may be useful to anyone about the SDS tuning process I will be going through, along with any dyno numbers in the future.

I hope you enjoy this half as much as I am!

-Dana

Arizona Z Headers and custom Intake mockup:

That #1 bolt hole in the intake flange doesn't quite match up with head threading.  Some metalwork still has to be done:

The slow process of sodablasting the paint off the car.  I am told baking soda removes the paint only, then protects the bare metal from rusting while the car sits.  It also does not pit the sheetmetal like sandblasting would do, so she stays smooth as a.....well I don't know, just not pitted.

What'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?

Only black paint to show up in a BRE paint scheme is the number on the side. Red, White and Blue......

December 02, 2008

The Z just got back from the shop that put in a rollbar.  Seat tracks being fabricated to accomodate the Corbeaus.  Pictures to follow.  Sorry, no fancy Hoke website here, I like to get my sleep!

All BRE decals are either in possesion or paid for and awaiting shipment.
This included some custom work done by Peter Brock himself, former owner of BRE.

Paint should be sprayed sometime next week....

So I've been in contact with Peter and Gayle Brock for just about a year now, ever since the launch of their new website, bre2.net, and they are two wonderful people.  Once I bought the rights to carry the official BRE logos, the 280Z became an Official Tribute Vehicle of the BRE racing days.

The latest project is all the decals that are going on the car.  I've been hounding Gayle for nearly a year and she finally came through this Fall.  I just paid for some "custom" decals that Peter actually had a hand in making for me, which will be  shipped to me this week!  Most of these decals are direct copies of originals that were found in an old weathered leather briefcase.  That means that the size, fonts, and colors will all be perfectly correct since I bought them all from BRE.

I thought some information I just gained would be interesting to you, so I've copied my last email from Gayle here:

Quote
Hi Dana.  Your decals came in today.  They look very nice.  I especially like the “280 Z”.  Just a note that the “30” is “03”. I had talked to the vendor and reminded him the numbers needed to be “30”.  He said it wouldn’t matter as 1) he was probably going to print the numbers separate from each other and 2) even if he didn’t he said they’re so large they should be applied separately. He did in fact print them together so just cut them apart and apply them separately.

I got a great idea from one our Tribute car owners to create a Tribute Vehicle certificate, in addition to the foil decals.  I’ve now done that and I’d like to send your certificate to you.  All I need is the VIN of your car so I can complete the certificate (another owner had requested we start capturing the VINs so as to increase the perceived value of the program so I started doing that after you became a member).

Give me your VIN and I’ll get your certificate out to you right away (it will be sent separately from the decals, which will ship tomorrow (Wed)).

Thanks,
Gayle

These Corbeau CR-1 seats were a b*%@h to fit in the old Z.  On both the Corbeau supplied brackets or any combination of original seat brackets, the seats sat up too high and wouldn't fit close enough to center with the steering wheel.

So the transmission tunnel was cut (took the bulge on the driver side out) and the original seat rails were removed from the floor pan and new brackets were installed.  Finally fits!!!

Maybe now she can get sprayed with paint!!

Here are a few pics (more can be seen on my weblink to Photobucket under my profile):
